good music
I realy love good music. the kind of music that makes you really latch onto their particular emotion and "get it". Here is a list of good songs that I realy "get".
Hey Ya! by Outkast (Andre 3000) - This song will always be, to me at least, one of the finest songs ever made. The emotions and songmanship conveyed are fantastic. They are pure and perfect in their presentation. I love it. It represents the best aspects of "rap" and "alternative" music. Its well done, well written, well performed, and well represented by Andre 3000.
Lust for Life by Iggy Pop - Absolutely love this song. Its not on the level with "I Want to be Your Dog" as far as greatness, but this song is extremely fun and any time I feel down I slap it in and enjoy myself. Iggy Pop's music is chock full of emotion and this is no exception. The beat is really driving, pushing the listener forward, wether they wish to go or not.
Tropicalia by Beck - Another great beat song. Flows and ebbs through a great series of chords with a fantastic laid back way of singing. Sounds like a song out of place in the 2000's but perfectly fits into the way Beck does music - offbeat and away from the pack. It's from an underated album (Sea Change) and really stands out as a great track.
Very Funny by Magnetic Feilds - This song I love because it is so ironic. Its not funny at all. Its incredibly sad and depressing. It makes you feel those emotions. Aristotle argued that the theatre was necessary because it cause people to feel emotions and feelings that they could not experience in their daily life. Aristotle would love this song and this band. if he was alive, of course.
Packed Like Sardines in a Crushed Tin Box by Radiohead - What emotion this particular song is seeking to express, I am not sure. But, I definitely feel emotional listening to it. It is very electronic and full of noises and rising and falling sounds. It is compelling and pulls the listeners ears. Thom York really keeps his voice flat throughout, which adds to the curiousity the song induces in me and (i am sure) in other listeners.
The Weather by Built to Spill - This song has a special connection for me. When I first started listening to Built to Spill, this was the first song my wife "noticed" and pointed out. It's pretty amd whimsical in its approach to love and caring for another person. Not only it is a good song, but its lyrics are well-written (as most BtS lyrics are) and thoughtful.
The Rat by Walkmen - Gotta admit, this song has a personal feel to it. I feel old when I try and go to local shows or clubs. Too many young people or old people trying to be young. This song hits the nail on the head.
